As a young professional it is tough to build up your wear-to-work wardrobe. You want to put your best foot forward in your career, and that includes looking & feeling your best. Blazers are a wardrobe staple for young professionals, so today I have got your guide to the top 5 blazers every working woman needs.

(1) Fitted Black Blazer

A fitted black blazer is the absolute staple of any young professional’s wardrobe. It’s a timeless piece that can be worn with just about anything. I recommend keeping a well fitted black blazer in your office at all times. Think of it as your professional looking security blanket – thought you had a casual day and then suddenly an important meeting is thrown at you? You can add a fitted blazer to whatever you are wearing to make your outfit appropriate for any work event.

(2) Menswear Inspired Blazer

Every woman needs a powerful blazer in her arsenal, and a menswear inspired style is perfect for that. A tuxedo jacket, similar to the one I am wearing here, is a great style that carries both the confidence of a menswear inspired blazers and the fashion forward element that every working fashionista wants.

(3) Good Quality Blazer

While you are starting out in your professional career, you may not have the budget to go crazy on work wear. In my opinion you don’t need a ton of expensive blazers, but you do need one really good quality blazer. My personal favorite blazer is the one pictured in the above photo from Citzen’s Mark. The fabric and tailoring are so high quality and so beautiful!

(4) Cropped Blazer

A cropped blazer is an important item of wear-to-work clothing that pairs well with those wide-leg trousers you’ve been seeing on-trend this year, as well as office appropriate dresses.

 (5) Bold Blazer

Every working woman needs one bold or bright blazer they can wear to work that is their “stand out” item. I love wearing a bright blue, emerald or red blazer with basic black to brighten up my work wear.

Very fun. I have two blazers and while they're very different from each other, I feel like I don't have that staple I should have. Love all of these!

It's tough to get started on the staples for sure – there are so many options out there nowadays. The good news is that that means that you can find affordable ones which is a HUGE bonus!

  3. I love the blue blazer on you! I need to invest in a tailored blazer myself!

  7. Such a great post for young professionals! I am no longer a corporate working woman, having transitioned to stay at home mom status years ago, but I do love the look of a beautiful blazer even if paired with jeans for someone like me! I love all 5 of the blazers you have styled here and probably have 5 in my closet that fit your requirements for a professional woman…I just dress them down a bit (or dress up my jeans…either way you view it). But fabulous, informative post on blazers any way you decide to wear them! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Shelbee! That's awesome that you transitioned to stay at home mom – I hope to do that one day when I have kids as well.

Thats a good point! Blazers are great with denim – makes you look so polished but still casual.

  8. Love this post!!! I am a true prepster and I have a major blazer fetish… I definitely need a bold blazer and I've been keeping my eye out for one (perhaps in pale pink?). Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you so much Amanda! So glad you liked it! And haha you and me both!
OO a pale pink one would be gorgeous! I've been on the look out for a tailored/structured pale pink one for a while now (I just have a loose one).
