Dressember – How a Dress Can Change the World

December 2, 2016

Dress (under $75!) // Blazer (over 50% off!!) // Heels // Earrings c/o // Similar TB Handbag (mine here is last year’s version)

I have been patiently waiting for weeks (and weeks, and weeks) for December to hit so that I could share this post with all of you! Today, I am excited to be telling you about a really great campaign called Dressember.

What is Dressember?

Dressember
uses fashion to advocate for women who’ve been exploited; women who
need our help across the world.
It challenges women to wear a dress for all 31 days
of December. In doing so, they are advocating for the inherent dignity of all women.

Why are you participating in Dressember?

For starters, I feel so privileged to be a women in a
country, and a family, where I have had every opportunity available to
me. Not every girl is
afforded these same opportunities and advantages.

Secondly, prior to law school I did my Master’s in international development and spent a lot of time working with non-profits and NGOs trying to advance women’s and children’s rights. I will therefore always have a soft sport for organizations and campaigns like this. In fact, Dressember was actually created by a fellow alumnae of a non-profit I worked for back in 2008.

Should I participate? How Can I Get Involved?

100% you should participate in this awesome campaign! You can participate by signing up yourself and raising donations here

If you don’t want to wear a dress for the next 30 days, you can still participate by donating. (If you’d like to donate to me specifically feel free to leave me a comment or email me and I’ll send you my personal page link. I’m not leaving it here because I don’t want this to be a plug about donating to me specifically)

Finally, you can get involved by shopping! Dressember has their own line of dresses on the website that you can purchase. They are BEAUTIFUL and are all ethically made.

Where Does the Money Go?

Dressember donations go to two organizations – the International Justice Mission and A21. Both are organizations dedicated to ending human trafficking.

What Does this Mean for LegalLee Blonde?

As you probably figured out, for the rest of this month every outfit post I share on LegalLee Blonde will feature a dress. This is going to be a challenge considering a) it’s freaking freezing out and b) I almost always wear pant suits to work. But, I am committed and am excited to come up with a bunch of stylish wear to work winter outfits that feature dresses. I hope you’ll join me!

Aren’t these outfits awesome?! I would stay away from sleeveless dresses though. Women of a “certain age” should never wear sleeveless dresses, unless they work out regularly.

  4. This is so pretty! You look fantastic.

It is definitely so pretty! I love the shade of grey – its not too light but not too dark. And girl, you can pull of anything!! I am ALL about wearing what you love!
