New York Fashion Week – Day 1

September 18, 2017

Happy Monday everyone!! I am finally starting to feel recovered from New York Fashion Week and am excited to share with you all a recap of my week. My first New York Fashion Week was everything I could have hoped for. I am still in shock that I was able to attend so many shows; especially ones that were ‘pipe dreams’ for me, such as Alice & Olivia. But, more on that later!!

Every day this week I will be giving you guys a full play-by-play of each of my five days at New York Fashion Week. So, let’s get to it! I took the red-eye from Vancouver to New York on Thursday night and so basically had to hit the ground running when I arrived on Friday morning.

First stop was a fitting at the Rent the Runway Flagship store. Rent the Runway loaned me a few dresses for Fashion Week so I went to try everything on and take it all home with me. It was a fun experience, and I fell in love with so many of the dresses.

The first runway show I had – my first ever NYFW show – was Vaishali. I had not heard of Vaishali before, so it was interesting to start fashion week off with a totally new (to me) designer. The Vaishali runway show went off flawlessly – with dozens of spring/summer 2018 pieces being showcased. Below are pics of some of my favorite looks. The layering throughout the collection definitely caught my eye and I love how the pieces moved.

After a successful first show, I wanted to meet up with one of my blogger friends – Kelsey from Blondes and Bagels – for a quick lunch. We went to While We Were Young; the cutest cafe in the West Village. The avocado toast was gigantic (I always forget how big portions in the states are!) and the cocktails were so good. I highly recommend this little spot if you’re in the West Village! Ps. I wore one of my Rent the Runway Dresses (linked up below) as well as my DREAM handbag this Celine tote which TrendLee was kind enough to loan me for fashion week. If you saw my instastories, you know that this baby did not leave my side for 5 days straight. I practically slept with it in my bed haha.

Next up was my second runway show for the day – Cindy Monteiro. This collection was right up my alley. Cindy Monteiro’s spring/summer collection had very structured elements paired with soft flowy pieces. It was that masculine/feminine mix that you all know I am so in love with. Anytime a designer can take structured menswear pieces and add more modern feminine elements I am all for it.

I also really liked that the collection kept to neutrals (white, cream, tan and black). By keeping the color palette neutral, I found that the focus was able to remain on the shapes and structures – which were clearly the standout part of this collection. Below are some of my favorite looks from this runway show.

Day one of NYFW definitely eased me into the chaos of the week; as those were my only two shows for the day. At night I attended a Style & Technology party which was really interesting. There were a lot of new beauty & skincare products on display that use the latest in technological innovations.

After the party, I headed back to my hotel to meet up with my blogger squad (follow me on instagram if you don’t know who my lil squad of fashionistas is!) and we spent the night getting ready for the rest of fashion week (…and eating a ton of 99 cent New York Pizza, because #necessary.)

Be sure to check back in tomorrow for a recap of Day 2 of NYFW. Day 2 had some serious drama … so you’ll want to read about what happened!
