Work day fashion can be tricky. Clearly, the office is not the place to try out every crazy trend that comes out, but you also don’t want to feel stuck in a boring fashion rut. Sometimes a fashion trend comes along that can easily be work place appropriate and this spring we’re in luck!
One of the biggest fashion trends this spring is gingham print, and this trend can so easily be styled for the office. One of my favorite work appropriate gingham pieces is definitely this contrasting gingham print dress. I love the look of two different size gingham prints on one dress! So much about this dress is perfect for a spring (or summer) day at the office.
The attention to detail on this dress is fantastic – from the frill peplum detail at the waist to the frill hem at the bottom. The classic short sleeved sheath silhouette keeps this dress completely work day ready, even for the most conservative office.
There are some things to keep in mind when styling the gingham print trend for the office. Here are some of my gingham print styling tips:
We all love the classic red & white gingham, but keep that for your summer BBQs. For a work day look, look for black & white gingham pieces or navy & white gingham pieces.
Same deal as above. There are so many fun summer-y gingham pieces right now (… case and point this gingham romper and this gingham bow tie dress – both of which I am dying to add to my closet!) but for work, find classic silhouette’s in gingham print. A sheath dress, a pencil skirt, a button down blouse, for example.
It’s probably obvious, but if you’re trying out anything a bit ‘bold’ or fashion forward for the office, you should keep the rest of your look simple. Stick with classic shoes and a handbag and keep any jewelry to a minimum. As you can see with this outfit I paired my gingham print dress with my favorite black suede heels ( I just love the V-shape cut at the toe) and my Chanel bag. I couldn’t resist adding some jewelry, so I went with my faux pearl & crystal statement earrings.
While this gingham print dress is my first wear-to-work gingham piece for the year, it certainly won’t be my last! Below I’ve rounded up a bunch of great gingham pieces (including another gingham print dress or two) that would be perfect to wear to the office.
I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can actually start wearing this gingham print dress to work! I shot these photos when I was in Reno last week, and it was so warm & sunny. Definitely got me excited for spring and summer weather here in Vancouver!
By the way, if you too are living somewhere where it’s still cold, be sure to check out my post on must-have coats for spring. These will keep you warm but still in the spring mood, until spring weather actually chooses to show up!
