This velvet midi skirt is one of my favorite finds this season. You might have noticed that I have fallen hard for velvet this fall/winter (exhibit A – my velvet gown & exhibit B – my velvet blazer). This velvet midi skirt though really stole my heart though because it is so affordable. This skirt comes in at under $50!

I was getting major 1920’s vibes from this velvet midi skirt, so I wanted to steal another trend from that era and have my shoes match my skirt. These green heels were the perfect compliment! Besides, I think this shade of green – a mix between forest green and dark emerald green – might be my favorite color of all time; so I might as well stock up on pieces in this shade!
I wanted to make this outfit something you could wear in a business causal environment, so I went with one of my go-to styles for work -a button down with a scarf tied at the collar. A white button down with a tie-neck scarf can make most outfits look work day appropriate; so it is a great style tip to have on hand for those days when you just cannot bring yourself to wear your classic black pencil skirt for the fourteenth day in a row lol. Bust out your more fun pants & skirts! Even for casual Friday, a tie-neck blouse tucked into jeans looks casual but still polished. #Winning.
This post may be about my velvet midi skirt; but don’t think I would leave you without talking about my bag! I’ve already styled it on the blog twice in the past few weeks, because I cannot get enough of it. The Gucci Marmont is always going to be a classic bag and I love the luxe look and feel of the Marmont in velvet.
Last thing before I end this velvet midi skirt post; it’s day 12 of “12 Days of Giveaways!” Ahhh! It’s been a whirlwind doing 12 posts and organizing a giveaway a day for the last 12 days but it has also been a lot of fun. I really do want to thank each and every one of you for reading my blog.
You (my fantastical, wonderful, kick-ass readers) are why I do what I do- blogging even though I am busy with my legal practice. It is also not lost on me that the income I am able to make from my blog, through sponsored posts, etc. is directly because of all of you coming here and spending time here on LLB. I hope you enjoyed the giveaways as my little way of saying thank you.
Before I talk about the last giveaway, since there are some new readers here (hey girl heyyyyy) I wanted to share a bit about myself so you can get to know me. For my long-time readers, maybe some of these will surprise you!? Actually, I think they all might! Here we go:
1. I am (very) single, but was in a decade long relationship:
It’s funny, because most people think of me as a total independent woman / bachlorette. I live on my own, I run my own legal practice, and if you followed my instastories in the summer you’ll know that I dated a lot. … a lot, a lot. …. Tay Swift levels of dating, some may say. Lol. However, what most people don’t know (even some of my friends!) is that I was in a relationship from age 14 – age 24. It was an interesting experience going through everything one goes through when you’re just growing up and learning who you are while having a constant partner by your side. I sometimes feel like I lived life backwards, timing wise, but it definitely made me who I am today. … That said, ya girl is still v. single so lemme know if you’ve got any eligible bachelor friends I should be meeting lol.
2. I’m not a big animal lover:
… Okay, before you freak out, bear with me on this one. My dad is a veterinarian, so I grew up surrounded by animals. It was an absolutely amazing experience. I had cats, dogs, horses, & a turtle. We would even have random animal guests in our home on occasion; like the one time we had a baby deer with broken back legs live in our living room for 2 weeks, or the time we had a snake in the mudroom. I actually grew up learning how to help deliver foals, & how to help clear puppies’ noses/throats when they’re delivered via C-section. I can also pull out porcupine quills from a dog’s mouth like a friggin’ boss. Lol. All that said; I spent so much time with animals as a kid that I think they lost their ‘wow’ factor. I don’t dislike animals, I just don’t get all excited about them the way most people do.
3. I can only eat multi-color foods one color at a time:
Fruit loops, skittles, sour patch kids, you name it. If it’s got a slew of colors, I can only eat it one color at a time – ie. all the reds, then all the oranges, etc. I’ve been like this since I was little, no idea where it comes from!
4. I love working with kids:
It’s probably not a shock that I love kids (you only need to watch my instastories on any given weekend to see my obsession with my nieces), but what you probably don’t know is that I spent my youth working with kids. I taught dance and art classes and during the summers was a camp counselor. I actually really miss working with kiddos, and am hoping to work that back into my ‘choose your own adventure’ style / multi-prong career that I’ve got going on.
5. I am the worst driver:
No, but really. I’ve totaled two cars; and once in high school I drove into a portable. I am sooooo ready for these self-driving cars to become an actual (affordable) option.
Alright, on to today’s giveaway! For Day 12, I am actually going to have the giveaway be on my instagram. It will be live on Sunday December 16th around 4pm PST/ 7pm EST! Stay tuned!

This entire outfit is beyond fabulous for the holidays!! And I love these facts about you!! I’m with you on the wrecking cars issue… I was a horrible driver but I’ve actually realized I drive better in a manual than an automatic! haha
Thanks girl! and haha no way, that is so random! I may need to start learning to drive stick then!
I’m in love with your beautiful skirt and how you styled it! I too eat one color at a time. haha, no clue why! I’m not a great driver either-I have driven into a bush, and I rear ended my mom in high school-I still hear about that one anytime she drinks wine. Ugh!
XOXO
Cathy

Aren’t they gorgeous?! The retro vibes really caught my eye and the dark green is so pretty!
That is too funny about the colored food things!! I feel like we all have some sort of quirky eating habits (mine is that my food cannot touch!) but I haven’t heard that one before

I totally agree; and haha ya I feel ya, I also don’t like it when my food touches. Flavors aren’t meant to mix if they’re not intended to!
I hate when my food touches, so I feel you on the same colored things! I love the skirt, it’s such a gorgeous color!
Right! It’s weird when food touches; I totally feel ya. And thank you so much re. the skirt!
Loved learning all these things about you. Also love the green skirt and shoes!
Thanks Greta!
