I have always been a bigger fan of fall and spring fashion than winter. Living in a cold climate especially I’ve always found winter to be very limiting, and therefore frustrating, when it comes to fashion. Not this year. There is a 2019 winter trend that is actually functional and wearable that I am really excited about.
A big 2019 winter trend is layered coats! This trend was huge among high fashion designers: Balenciaga , Givenchy, and Gabriela Hearst all showed layered coats in their F/W 2019 runway shows. Unlike many high-fashion trends which aren’t wearable but rather are inspiration for fashion trends; this one is actually wearable as is.
At it’s most basic all you need to do is style a more fitted coat under a larger coat. Some specifics to keep in mind if you are trying out winter coats from your closet to see what works to create the layered look:
To make the look even more functional and wearable as a 2019 winter trend, opt for a crossbody handbag worn over your first coat, but under your second coat as I have done here. This keeps you handsfree but still with access to your bag.
My handbag is a vintage Chanel of grandmothers, but in the links above (or widget below) I am sharing 3 similar vintage finds I have found at a online designer boutique that I love, The Real Real. These are bags that will sell quickly so if you are interested in purchasing one, do not wait!
One other style tip / idea to leave you with if you are intrigued by this 2019 winter trend, that is especially good if you leave in a less cold climate, is to layer a fall jacket. Instead of layering two winter wool coats, opt for a short leather or denim jacket under your winter coat. The effect is the same, and again was seen on some runways this year. My personal favorite look is a dark denim jacket under a wool camel colored coat.
Last thing I have to mention because I think these photos really show it off – my favorite makeup product. I am obsessed with this highlighter I am wearing. It is by far the most beautiful highlighter I have found. I talked about it last year in my favorite makeup look for spring, and I am still wearing it every chance I get. This highlighter is so worth adding to your makeup routine!
