I love sharing the runway looks from NYFW with you (my recap posts start herehere if you missed them) but I also really like sharing with you the more ‘wearable’ trends. One of the best parts of New York Fashion Week is seeing what fashionistas wear on the streets heading to the shows. Clear trends always emerge and are always hits for mainstream fashion going forward. Today I am sharing the 5 biggest winter street style trends from NYFW – perfect to get you through these last few months of winter and into spring.
For each of these 5 trends, I’m sharing the looks of fellow fashionistas at fashion week. You can see their respective instagram accounts tagged, so go check them out if you like them!
This trend was everywhere at NYFW. I like it because it is a trend that is easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. My personal favorites are white ankle boots, but there were also a ton of knee high white boots as well. The key is to look for vegan leather (or leather if that is your thing) that isn’t too shiny. Leave that PVC look in the ’90’s.

How to Style White Boots:
This is honestly such a great trend since it is so versatile. As you can see from my above favorite fashion bloggers looks, you can wear white boots to dress down a velvet dress, you can wear them with leather or white pants, and you can wear them with pretty much any skirt. Pair any of your favorite winter outfits with white boots and you’ve got an on trend look for this year.
My Top Picks for White Boots:
To be honest, this was a trend I was really surprised to see. Tulle skirts had a moment in 2010-ish, and then kind of fell away from popular style. Apparently though, we are bringing them back in a big way in 2019. The difference between the 2010 styling and now is what to wear with a tulle skirt. More on that below:
What to Wear with a Tulle Skirt:
Inspired by the infamous Carrie Bradshaw outfit the 2010 revival of tulle skirts was all about the feminine ballerina look. The 2019 styling is quite different. This year, the trend is tulle skirts paired with bulkier tops – be that a chunky knit sweater, a belted blazer, or coat.
My Top Picks for Tulle Skirts:
Shades of green are really popular this year, and it’s easy to see why; everyone looks good in green! The street style trend for winter – as evidenced by the fashionistas at NYFW – is to wear all green or green on green.
How to Style All Green:
Honestly, since the trend here is just to wear all green or green on green, that kind of covers ‘how to style it’! One thing I would mention is to stick with neutral accessories – like Emily’s grey boots, or Jenna’s cream bag. If you are wanting to go bold and add color, go for complimentary jewel tones – burgundys and royal blues work best!
My Top Picks for Green Pieces (all under $150!):
This is probably my favorite of the biggest street style trends from NYFW. Pearl barrettes, particularly oversized ones, were everywhere. This is definitely the biggest hair style trend now and moving in to spring.
How to Style Pearl Barrettes:
Use them to clip your hair back at the side as Jordie did above, or have one or two layered at the back having pulled your hair half up. Wearing more than one – especially if they are different shapes – is majorly on trend. Many of them are sold in sets with two different shapes (you’ll see below) so this is an easy look to recreate
Shop Pearl Barrettes:
Last but not least one of the biggest winter street style trends from NYFW was patterned coats. Consider this a collective decision to beat the winter blues with fun colors and patterns. Now is the perfect time to grab a patterned winter coat on sale to last you the last couple of months of winter and take you into spring.
How to Style Patterned Coats:
This one again is such an easy trend to wear! Add a patterned coat to any of your outfits for a mood-brightening on trend look.
