Everything You Need to Know about the Richard Allan x H&M Collection

richard allan x hm review

The latest designer collaboration to hit H&M is that of British designer Richard Allan. Richard Allan was founded in the UK in the 60’s and the Richard Allan x H&M Collection has all the markings of 60’s patterns, silhouettes and colors but with a modern flare.

The collection launched online and in select stores on Thursday; today I am reviewing the collection for you – giving you  everything you need to know about the Richard Allan x H&M collection – from fit, to sizing, to quality.

First, let’s talk about this high collar satin dress; my favorite piece in the Richard Allan x HM collection. This 60’s style swing dress is a gorgeous satin material – I am really impressed by the quality of fabric for the under $4o price tag. I love that most of the pieces have a headscarf in a matching pattern so I was able to get this $10 scarf to really complete the 60’s vibes.

While I give the quality 10/10 you should definitely be aware that the sizing is unusual. I wear a size 6 usually, which in H&M is an 8 (their clothing always runs one size small), but in this dress I’m wearing a 4. So, I would size down 1 size from your usual, two from your usual if you’re a regular at H&M!

As far as the rest of the collection, I’ll be uploading a series of fitting room try-on photos to the LiketoKnow.it app this morning – so head there to see more photos of what the pieces look like on a real person, and get exact details on sizing. If you don’t use the free app, you can head to the “Shop My Instagram” page on my blog where my liketoknow.it photos are always posted as well!

Here is a general recap of the Richard Allan x H&M Collection:

Sizing: The pieces tend to run large. I would size down in everything.

Quality: The fabrics and materials used for the collection are surprisingly good, especially for the price point. The satin dresses especially feel great and look far more expensive than they are.

Price Point: The pieces range from $10 for accessories (like scarves) to $7o (the knee high boots). The majority of pieces are in the $30 – $40 range.

Great question! It depends on the item, but a lot are polyester blends. The swing dress Im wearing is polyester but feels so soft and satin-like.

  2. So many great items!! And I’m loving this outfit! Going to shop the collection now!!

This collection is fun and I love how you styled that dress! It has a retro vibe to it. Good to note about the sizing. So odd that it is different from the rest of H&M!

Ya i find that the sizing has been changing – they’re trying to change to match typical retailers (ie make their sizes seem 1 size smaller) and this collection is definitely doing that!

Love that its so affordable! Those earrings are so cute

    • Lee says:

I was surprised how affordable it is! I Would have thought the dresses would be in the $60-70 range, but instead they’re $40-50!
      And thank you! <3

Such a fun dress! I hadn’t heard of this collaboration, but I’ll have to check it out. H&M is allegedly adjusting their sizing to be more consistent with US measurements, but it still feels like a very mixed bag as to what pieces will fit the old way vs the new.

Ya i just learned that as well! so interesting! And definitely – now I feel like I just need to try things on to see fit. This collection at least though is pretty consistent throughout the collection.

There’s a H&M in the mall that I visit on a weekly basis, and I just saw their window update with this collection. So many fun patterns and styles. Looks great on you!

This is such a gorgeous look! Also, what’s your calf workout?! Your legs look phenom!

    • Lee says:

Thank you so much! and lol im embarrassed to say I don’t have one! i grew up dancing (ballet, jazz, tap etc) and my legs really didn’t change once i stopped. I’ve always been a bit self concious about my calves being large, so I really appreciate the compliment!
