After asking all of my instagram followers about what they wanted to see as far as New York Fashion Week content here on the blog, I decided to do something a little different this year for my NYFW content. Since I covered most days in their entirety via stories (saved under my “NYFW” highlight) here on the blog I’m going to share just my favorite shows from each day; and the trends they reflect for spring summer. I’ll also be sharing all the details on what i wore each day – stuff that I didn’t get a chance to talk about on my instagram stories! As a reminder though, if you want to see my full NYFW content my instagram stories are the place to go.
Mochi was my first presentation during this New York Fashion Week, and it was an incredible one. They really outdid themselves making the experience immersive with dancers, musicians, and themed cocktails to enjoy while checking out the Spring Summer 2020 (SS20) collection.
Mochi is a really cool, really unique brand because every collection is handcrafted by local artisans using traditional methods of embroidery to create modern styles and pieces. The founder, Ayah Tabari, works with local aritsans on all collections adding an element of sustainability and economic support that is often lacking in the world of fashion.
For the SS20 collection Mochi is using the Filipino Payihas festival (a traditional celebration of a bountiful harvest) as their inspiration. Think of this collection as a mix of modern boho and south asian. The colors are vibrant and the attention to detail is bar none. These pieces are going to be perfect for your spring & summer vacations.
Here are some of the standouts from the SS20 collection:
If you’re interested in more All Things Mochi, here are my favorite pieces from their current collection, all available to shop now:
Laurence & Chico is a NYC/Vancouver based design duo who I have been following for years – I love that they’ve got a Vancouver connection! This was my second year attending their show and this year I even had the privilege of going backstage! Since I went backstage, let’s briefly talk hair and makeup – and what ill be trending for SS20 – before we get to the new L&C collection.
The inspiration for the makeup was the modern New York woman – someone who is fierce, strong & confident. To that end they focused on dramatic eyeliner and generally eyes-that-pop. The focus was on neon shades of yellow and green -which will be huge for spring/summer 2020. In fact, one of the biggest trends in makeup will be an otherwise natural/understated look with a swipe of neon liquid eyeliner. For the runway show they, of course, took this trend to the next level using these insanely cool metallic stickers around the entire eye.
As far as the Laurence & Chico SS20 collection, designer Laurence Li has said that this collection was inspired by Sex and The City. The collection is inspired both the characters in SATC (and what they would wear if it was set today) as well as landmarks around New York such as the Empire State Building. Let’s take a look at the collection:
Next up, I want to talk about the L’Agence presentation. L’Agence is a brand self-described as laid back California meets Parisian style. The result? Some of my favorite pieces from New York fashion week! The suits are especially stunning and perfect for a summer day at work.
If you are loving L’Agence as much as I am, here are some of their currently available pieces that would be perfect for fall/winter:
Elie Tahari has long been a go-to wear to work brand for me. When I was invited to attend their show this year, I swear I nearly passed out. While I love fashion week for the crazy, cool, out-there fashion, I also love seeing stuff that is incredibly wearable, so seeing the Elie Tahari runway show was amazing.
The SS20 Collection for Elie Tahari incorporated a lot of trends I saw throughout fashion week – ie. trends that I think you will be loving come spring/summer 2020. These include:
– bucket hats
– olive & hunter green
– safari vibes
And last but not least, here are some of my favorite Elie Tahari pieces from the current collection. These would all be great as we move into colder fall weather. I picked pieces that are great for the office; and pieces good for a night out!

I wanted to keep things colorful and bright but also be comfortable since I came straight off of a red eye flight! To that end, I went with a floral blazer dress from Zara & patent oxfords. Anytime I can mix feminine cut with something menswear inspired, I. Am. In. lol. I finished the look with a Gold Gucci crossbody – which is from my favorite designer consignment store Mine & Yours.
For Day 2, I went NEON. Neon has been trending all summer and one of the ways we’ll see neon worn as we move into next year is neon on neon. So for today’s look I paired a neon yellow mini skirt with a matching belt bag with a neon blue puff sleeve top. The paired this look with snakeskin boots, because another big trend we’re seeing is paring neon and animal print.
Finally I topped the look off with my FAVORITE current trend – glasses chains!!
That’s right folks; looking like a librarian or dad-on-vacation is back. My chain is super affordable (only $5) so it’s a perfect way to try out the trend if you’re unsure about it. What’s cool about my chain is the little gold stars that hang on it.
Stay tuned on Monday for a recap of the best shows (and my outfit) from Day 3 of New York Fashion Week!
