2020 Fashion Trends (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly)

February 10, 2020

Hopefully I’m not the only who is calling January a ‘practice round’ and considering February the real start of the New Year. (Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?)

I’ve been wanting to share this with you for a few weeks and have finally had a chance to sit down and write it. Today I’m covering all things trendy and talking about the biggest fashion trends for 2020. I’ll be sharing both the ones I love and the ones I think are frankly, really, really bad.

In this outfit I’m wearing one of the biggest fashion trends for 2020; can you guess what it is before reading the list below!? 👀

polka dot top // black pants // snakeskin d’orsay pumps

2020 Fashion Trends I Love

Three Piece Suits

This is probably my favorite fashion trend of 2020. Three-piece suits for women were all over the SS20 runway shows last year and I was so excited to see everyday brands/stores picking up this trend. I love the homage to traditional menswear but made for us women taking over the corporate world. They also go behind work wear and there are so many gorgeous options with halter vests that would be perfect for a date night.

Polka Dots

I love this trend – hence wearing it in these photos! Polka dots are just a really happy print with 1950’s vibes. I’ve found a bunch of polka dot pieces I love so far this year (I’ll link them below) but my favorite has got to be this sweetheart polka dot top I’m wearing. And it’s under $10!

This trend from 2019 is here to stay for 2020; and it’s getting more dramatic. Last year we saw the pleated midi skirt trend take over, this year it’s all about even more pleats – from pleated dresses to culottes to sleeves on shirts.

Oversized Blazers

I love this trend a lot because it’s so versatile. You can style an oversized blazer with a graphic tee and mom jeans for an edgy look or over a slim fit dress for work.

Logo Tights

I have a love/hate relationship with this trend because I love the look of logo tights, but the price tag is a bit ridiculous. That said, I may pull the trigger and get the Gucci logo tights as I’ve been reading others reviews and apparently they are really well made and so will last.

2020 Fashion Trends that I Don’t Like

Alright on to the 2020 trends I am less than enthused about. There are some trends this year that I can only describe as straight up ugly. The trends of 2020 that I do not like are:

Dirty Sneakers: You read that right. A huge fashion trend for 2020 is sneakers that look beat up. Example: this $500 designer pair of sneakers. I just don’t get it – I like my shoes looking crisp, but even if I did like this look I’d rather just wear out an actual pair to look this way.

Tube Tops: I did not see this one coming folks! Tube tops are back. *collective grown* I don’t know anyone who personally likes this trend but they will be everywhere come spring/summer.

Bermuda Shorts: I totally get that some people like this trend, but I cannot get on board with it. As someone who is very curvy through the hips and things these are just such a bad look on me. UGH.

And that’s it! What trends are you liking for 2020? Do you agree with me on the not-so-good ones?!

  1. I’m so here for the polka dot trend!! Also with you on the dirty sneakers… I just cannot justify this!

  2. Rach DiMare says:

Eww I can’t believe dirty sneakers are a trend! But I am excited for 3-piece suits and polka dots!

  3. Lizzie says:

I agree with you on pretty much all of these! Not a fan of the dirty sneakers at all or the bermuda shorts and tube tops *shudders*. I’m excited for everything else though!

  4. definitely loving oversized blazers and I can vouch for the fact that the gucci tights are great!!! the black & white ones are only (lol) $100 and I wear them ALL the time!

Great post babe, I loved the polka dots, oversized blazer, and pleats trends! Definitely bought a few pieces this season!

    cute & little

  6. Stephanie says:

I was gonna guess puffed sleeves originally, but polka dots are fun too! I’m definitely on board with most of the trends you like, and I dislike the ones you aren’t a fan of too!

    • Lee says:

Ooo good guess – I do love a good puff sleeve but i wouldnt say that’s trending for 2020 sadly. That was big in 2019, 2020 if anything is more about statement sleeves – lots of mesh detail, balloon shapes, etc!

  7. Have to agree with you on the tube top trend. I’m triggered by my less fashionable days as a kid, lol. xoxo, Sarah

    • Lee says:

haha same! In grade 8 I had a white tube top with glittery cherries on it that I thought was the COOLEST thing ever. *shudders* lol!

  8. tanviidotcom says:

I can NOT stand the dirty sneaker trend either. UGH!

  10. I love this post!! I’m so on board with polka dots, any day, any time, any year! I just think they’re so cute. I’ve never seen the logo tight trend before. I’m all for fun printed tights, but I agree that I’m not willing to pay much for tights that will likely get ripped (clumsy, am i right?). Also the dirty shoes thing – ick! I’ve honestly never believed in pre-distressing. Why pay for something to be already ruined?! But I admit that I have *finally* given in to wearing lightly distressed jeans, haha. Anyway, you look so cute and I just adore this outfit!

    Miles of smiles,

    • Lee says:

Thank you so much Grace! And haha they are definitely so cute.
And i know- that’s my biggest fear with the designer tights as well, but people are saying they last/don’t rip so who knows!

  11. Greta says:

Girl, you will not be seeing me in bermuda shorts! I will be wearing polka dots and oversized blazers! So fun!

  12. Well the Bermuda shorts are growing on me I have to say! But I love the suits!

    • Lee says:

Aw that’s good! I just hate them because I don’t like how they look on my body. All the power to anyone else who wants to rocj them though! And yasss the suits are great!!

  13. Kristina says:

Yes to polka dots and pleats- I love all things feminine!! And I’m with you on Bermuda shorts… I. Just. Can’t!

  14. Lizzie says:

I agree with all of these, especially the not-so-great trends haha! Bermuda shorts aren’t a good look for anyone and I definitely don’t want to relive my tube top days lol.
