Work Wear Trend to Try: A Blazer Dress Over Pants

February 19, 2020

I have been in full on lawyer-mode the past few weeks (hence the lack of new blog posts) as I prepare for three different trials over the next two weeks. Since I’ve been living in work wear these past few weeks it seemed appropriate to get back into posting with a work wear outfit; and more specifically a work wear trend.

One of the fashion trends we’re seeing for 2020 that is perfect for professional / corporate work wear is blazer dresses worn over pants. It’s a trend I am a huge fan of since it looks polished while adding a bit more flare to a corporate environment.

When it comes to how to style this work wear trend though there is something to keep in mind – proportions. Meaning- if you’re blazer dress is shorter or quite fitted opt to style it over wide leg or flared pants. If you’re dress is longer, like the one I’m wearing here, make sure you pair it with slim fit pants – otherwise the bulk of the outfit just overwhelms your body.

The blazer dress and pants I’m wearing here are by one of my favorite work wear brands – Judith & Charles. If you haven’t heard of them, they’re a Canadian fashion brand which I love and they use really high quality fabrics. They do have a higher price point, but if you are willing/able to spend a bit more on work wear then you need to try them out.

Since this blazer dress & pants set is a bit pricier, I also wanted to link up some other options for blazer dresses/matching pants at various price points. Here are some that I’ve found and love:

So there you have it! Blazer dresses over pants, a wear to work trend you should try!

One more thing before I wrap up this blog post – my shoes! These heels are just a plain pair of pumps (one of my most recommended pair of pumps – more on that in my guide to the best heels if you’re interested) with shoe clips on top!

Shoe clips are definitely one of “style  secrets”. They’re a great way to keep your outfits looking updated since you can move them between shoes and try out different styles. These one (sold out unfortunately) are my favorites because they make your heels look like Manolo Blahniks! Two other really cute options though are these circle ones and these bow ones.

Alright that’s it for me for today! I’ve got a busy work day ahead and then a fun event tonight – a ‘media preview’ event of a local store called The Couturist which is opening a new location. I’m going with my friend Britta (Vancouver Vogue) so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll be sharing more on my instastories if you’re interested!

See, I love that you got creative with this! That dress would feel way too short on me, so the look over a pair of trousers is super chic and probably really comfortable as well! I love that the blazer works as a dress or a longline with pants. Seriously so cute!

Blazer dresses can not only appear in the office, but also can be worn from morning to night, from home to party events.
