Who else is in need of some at-home date night ideas?? 🙋♀️ In January Alex & I decided to make it a priority to have date night once a week and have a big ‘date day’ once a month. For our ‘date day’ we decided we would alternate months with each of us taking turns to plan a surprise date with a bunch of different activities.
March was my month and so, unsurprisingly, I found myself trying to come up with something fun and unique for an at-home date night . I actually came up with a ton of at-home date night ideas and so I thought I would share them with you all! I waited until we had our date night to do this post (we did #1 below) so that I could get Alex’s input on all of these without ruining our date night surprise! All of these ideas have been partner approved lol.
1. Learn to Paint with a Couples Painting Class
I came up with this idea because we have a studio here in Vancouver that does a monthly ‘date night’ where you and your partner are given a bottle of wine and a teacher teaches you to do a painting. When I found out we were going to be stuck at home for a while I wanted to see if I could recreate this idea at home. It was actually fun and easy to do! I ordered these canvases & acrylic paints, opened a bottle of wine and Alex & I learned to do the sweetest ‘couples painting skyline via this YouTube video! I highly recommend this for a date!!
2. Make a Travel / Adventure Bucket List
Do you want to go to the hot air balloon festival in Cappadocia? Or visit Flamingo Island? What about going white water rafting or learning to surf? Curl up with your partner and plan your adventures!
3. Do an Online Cooking Class
YouTube to the rescue again! You may have thought about going to do a cooking class with your partner, there are tons of YouTube videos walking you through an entire recipe! This is a great way to try out a new recipe.
4. Have a Games Night
Pull out some old board games, some cards or even some online games and get competitive! Alex and I found this Jeopardy App where you can find Jeopardy games people have made and play them with your partner.
5. Have an “Around the World” Dinner
Pick any country and make your meal around that! For Mexican you can make guacamole and margaritas, for Japan you could make sushi together, for France you could have a picnic style wine and cheese! Get creative and enjoy!
6. Have a “Cook Off”
This one is great if you’re competitive haha! Plan on each of you cooking a dish for dinner but then you each get to surprise the other person with a mystery ingredient they need to include in whatever they cook. Set a timer for it and get the creative juices flowing. When you sit down to eat you each get to vote on who’s dish is better!
7. Recreate Your First Date – At Home!
I love this one, I am such a sap. It’s pretty self-explanatory, think about your first date and re-create it! If you went to dinner and a movie, make whatever food you ate and cuddle up and watch the movie you watched!
8. Have a Movie Marathon
You can pick a genre and grab a bunch of movies in this genre or each pick a favorite movie and watch them back to back. Make it a real movie theatre experience by making an insane amount of popcorn!
9. Watch a Movie “At the Drive In”
If you have a projector, play a movie on an outdoor wall! If not, you can play a movie on your laptop while outside on your balcony or backyard. Make up a comfy spot with lots of blankets and snacks and enjoy watching a movie under the stars!
10. Re-Create a Favorite Holiday
Are you a Christmas fanatic? Do you love Halloween? Pick a holiday and just pretend it’s that night! For Christmas, you can fill and hang stockings for each other, drink rum and eggnog, wear an ugly Christmas sweater and watch Elf! For Halloween you could dress in costumes, watch scary movies and even carve pumpkins!
11. Have an At Home Spa Day
Turn your home into a relaxing oasis! Put on relaxing music, pick up some of each of your favorite magazines and relax! You can have a bubble bath ( I highly recommend getting this bath tub spa pillow!) You could listen to a meditation podcast, you could and have essential oils or candles. I’ll link some of my ‘at home spa day’ favorites below!
12. Plan a Trip
You may not be able to travel right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan! Pour a drink or curl up with hot chocolate and plan a future trip to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. Look into hotels, things you want to see, watch YouTube videos and read articles! Alex and I are planning a trip to Italy & Croatia and one to Hawaii!
13. Have a “Double Date” with Friends over Zoom or FaceTime
It’s a great way to still connect with your friends; you can still have a virtual double date! You can even pre-plan your meal and order from the same restaurant!
14. Play Video Games!
I know nothing, literally nothing about video games (… which is really ironic because my brother is a video game director for EA Games!) Alex however, loves them. If your partner does too, spend a night playing their favorite game! You can even get some retro games like Crash Bandicoot or Super Mario!
15. Learn a TikTok Dance!
I swore I was not going to get TikTok but this quarantine I totally caved haha. It’s actually so much fun and you can learn dances and make videos without ever posting, just saving them for you! Alex and I posted our first TikTok on the weekend – we did our version of the #fliptheswitchchallenge as thirty-somethings 🤣
Such cute ideas! I love the Zoom double date idea!
