Quarantine Birthday? How to Celebrate Your Birthday At Home

Hi Aries & Taurus babies!  I see you! Wondering how to celebrate your birthday at home?! I’ve got you covered. Yesterday was my 34th birthday and it was one I won’t be forgetting. It’s hard to social distance on your birthday but there are some things you can do while at home to still make your day extra special. Here is a list of 8 ideas for how to celebrate your birthday at home. Happy early birthday!

How To Celebrate Your Birthday at Home

1. Have a Meal with Friends Over Zoom/FaceTime

Plan a birthday brunch or dinner just as you would if you could go out and see your loved ones; and just have it over teleconference! I had a Zoom brunch/high tea with 5 of my girlfriends and it was so much fun. To be honest, it may be the best birthday meal you’ve ever had since you can have friends in different places all celebrating together! For me, my main group of girlfriends is here in Vancouver, where I live now, but my best friend lives in Ontario and my other closest friend lives in Australia. I had all of them on Zoom for our brunch and it was the first time they’ve all met / ‘hung out’. It was amazing to have that happen!

2. Do a Group Activity (From Your Homes)

You can do more than just have brunch with your loved ones. Find an activity you love and get everyone involved. You could all do a group workout class via Facebook Live, or you could all watch a movie together by downloading the Netflix Party extension in Chrome. It lets you all sync a Netflix movie and you can pause at the same time and chat about it!

3. Have a “Bar Crawl” in Your Home

Want to feel like you’re getting to try new spots on your birthday? Turn your home into a ‘bar crawl’ by making a different cocktail for different rooms. If you’re living with a partner or a roommate, have them join you by having a drink in each room. You can even decorate the rooms or have snacks to go with the theme. For example you could have: margaritas with chips and guacamole in the living room; mint juleps while listening to country music in the kitchen, and martinits while listening to jazz in the bedroom.

4. Get Take Out From a Fancy Restaurant

Many restaurants who would never normally have take out have created take out menus to adapt to this unusual time. Take advantage of that and enjoy a really fancy meal at home!

5. Dress Up!

You may not be able to go anywhere, but there’s no reason you can’t dress up in a party dress and do your hair and makeup. Have fun getting glam and go over the top, because why not!?

6. Embrace the Down Time

It’s rare to have so much time to ourselves and so much time stuck at home, but on your birthday turn that into a positive! Have a bubble bath, read magazines on the couch for hours, listen to an audio book, do whatever makes you feel relaxed and enjoy the time alone.

7. Go Birthday Present Shopping!

These are weird times my friend. Times where no one is going to bat an eye if you buy yourself some birthday presents. Enjoy some online shopping (at least sales are insane right now!) and buy yourself some gifts on your big day. If you’re looking for ideas of things you may need/like while stuck at home, don’t miss What I Stress Shopped While Social Distancing. I’ve got tons of great finds in there!

8. Don’t Forget the Birthday Cake!

Whether you want to try your hand at baking and make yourself a cake the day before or order from a local bakery, you can still have a birthday cake! Many local bakeries are struggling, of course, and would appreciate the support of you ordering a cake to be delivered!

It’s a weird time to have a birthday, I know, but the world needs all the extra happiness and joy it can get right now so I hope you live up your big day and have the best at-home birthday!
