For my 2nd DIY couples Halloween costume idea of 2020 I wanted to bring you a clever funny costume sure to make smile (or groan at the level of dad humor haha). In 2020 more than ever Alex and I miss travel … we have “the travel bug”; if you will. This costume idea came to us as an easy DIY when we were joking about having the travel bug.
What’s that phrase about ‘if you can’t beat em, join em’?? Well, since we’ve all got the travel bug and can’t do much about it let’s just embrace it and turn it into a cute and clever DIY Halloween costume lol!
It’s honestly a pretty easy couples costume to make! One person dresses up as “travel” and one person dresses up as a bug. Here’s some more info and tips on what we wore / other ideas for what to wear.
Get decked out in the dorkiest silliest travel out you can! We found Alex’s map print matching shirt and shorts for under $15 on Amazon and knew they would be perfect. Alex found an old Tilly style hat and a neck chain passport holder to complete the look. Other ideas for what to wear would be: a Hawaiian shirt, zinc oxide down your nose, socks with Birkenstock sandals.
You could go with any bug: a bumble bee, a dragonfly or a lady bug, like me! I found this under $50 red strapless dress that I thought would be perfect to get (since I can wear the dress again). To give the dress lady bug spots, I traced a coffee mug bottom on peel and stick felt, cut out the circles and then stuck them at random spots on the dress. I added this antennae headband and bright red lipstick (this matte lipstick lasts ALL DAY without moving, I can’t recommend it enough!) You could always wear heels or flats with this look but I personally like the idea of going with black over the knee boots since it makes more of your leg like a black bug leg!
I hope you like this unique costume idea! If you try this out and wear this please tag me on social media (@legalleeblonde) so I can see!! I love seeing you guys in outfits I’ve shared, costumes, etc!
Alex and I still haven’t decide which of the many (… many, many lol) Halloween costumes we’ve created for this year we’re going to wear ourselves on Halloween but I am leaning towards this travel bug one. It’s just such a fun one! Despite Halloween looking different this year I’m still excited to dress up, to zoom with a bunch of friends and to eat Halloween candy lol. Also, YOU GUYS. Alex has never seen Hocus Pocus!!! 🤯 Clearly this is the year I need to introduce him to that epic movie!
