How I Ship to Canada from US Stores

November 10, 2020

Not having Target, Express & Ulta in my life is not an option, so what’s a Canadian girl to do when US stores stop shipping to Canada in the era of COVID?! Find a way to ship to Canada from US Stores of course! For the past few months I’ve been trying out a shipping service that allows you to do just this. More specifically, any store that doesn’t ship to Canada either because they never have (like some Etsy sellers) or because they don’t post-COVID (like Target) can be shipped to Canada by using this service. Curious? Read on!

How to Ship to Canada from US Stores

In short: I found a service called MyUS – SHOP the USA and SHIP Worldwide with MyUS! This is a service you can sign up for (there are both free and premium plans) and they give you a US address to ship to. Once they receive your package they then send it on to you in Canada.

More specifically, MyUS has an address in Sarasota, Florida and when you sign up with them you are given a “suite number” that is actually just the number by which they identify you. In other words, you place an order from say, Target, and provide your address of “Lee Taylor, 4283 Express Lane, Suite #12345, Sarasota Florida” when checking out. (Ps. that is not my suite number but a fake one for the purpose of this explanation). Once MyUs receives the package from Target they send you an email alerting you that it’s arrived and giving you the size and estimated value.

The package is then shipped to you from MyUS and you simply pay the shipping (it can come from your bank or PayPal). If there is a customs duty the shipper on the Canadian end will reach out to you to pay that, but I have only had that happen once so far with the dozen or so  packages I have shipped using MyUs.

The shipping cost is pretty reasonable, but of course it is something to consider when shopping at US stores and getting them to Canada this way. Below is a screenshot of my shipping history in MyUs account last week –

As you can see my highest shipping cost was $35; which is a lot, but it was for a massive order of a few hundred dollars worth of clothes so it was totally worth it to me!

The one thing that is weird/that I don’t like is that you don’t get to know the shipping cost in advance. It’s simply sent to you and the money is withdrawn automatically from whatever payment method you provided. This is definitely not ideal, but so far I don’t have any complaints about it since the fees are reasonable. To make this a bit less stressful for you as well MyUs does have a ‘shipping estimate calculator’ on their website so you can take a guess at what the weight of an order would be and then see what the shipping would likely be before you decide whether or not to place your order.

The last thing to talk about is MyUS fees! They have a free membership plan as well as paid plans. You can see a comparison of the different plans on their site, I’ve been using the free plan so far, but right now they have a one month free membership trial for the premium plan.  I plan on upgrading to that later today to use it for the holiday season! The really nice thing about this plan as opposed to the free one is that you can ask them to hold packages for you while you ship a bunch of things to them and then ask them to package all your orders into one big package in order to reduce shipping costs. This is perfect for holiday gift shopping!!

Here’s the list of US Stores I’m Shopping at Using MyUS:

Kirklands – the cutest affordable home decor!
Ulta – affordable makeup; so many great brands we can’t get here like Coola!
Etsy – I’ve found SO many great holiday gifts and wedding related stuff here!
Target – no words adequately describe Target 😛
Walmart.com – they have SO many better options than the .ca site!
Nordstrom – same as above; they have so many more options on .com than they do on the .ca site!
Zappos – SO many amazing shoes!!

  6. this sounds like a really great service!

Okay, this is GENIUS. My best friend lives in Switzerland and she’s always asking me to purchase items for her from the US and then she pays me to ship them to her. It gets complicated and expensive. I’ll have to recommend this service to her!

I’ve never heard that service, I’ve been using Forward.me for a while. Customer service is great!

Oh I’ll have to check that one out as well! I hear there are a couple of these services and I definitely want to compare them.

This is such a cool service! I don’t know how I feel about not knowing the shipping charge beforehand but at least you can shop your fave stores!

  10. Wow this seems like a great service! I never thought of it tbh, I always just assumed you could ship there without a problem! This is very informative! Xx.

    • Lee says:

Haha ya most people have said that! It depends on the store – some like nordstrom and macy’s do ship here pretty easily on their own but other’s either don’t or charge SUCH high shipping fees!

yay! So Glad you can get your target fill!!

I have used Myus a couple of times on things that I just had to have. It’s totally worth it if they don’t ship to Canada because it’s not like we can go on a trip and buy it there!

    • Lee says:

Exactly how I feel! I hate the added cost (of course) but since there’s no option to go in person right now I’ve found it worth it.

  13. Kt says:

Have you actually used this? Target blocks orders to forwarding addresses and it doesn’t work unfortunately

    • Lee says:

Yes! I used this a ton of over the summer and fall – I placed I think about 12 orders in total. I only placed one from target and it worked just fine. The next one I tried to place from target didn’t work. The first one was clothes and the second was kitchen stuff and decor – I’m not sure if maybe that’s why? I stopped using the service because I had a bad experience right before Christmas in that I ordered a mirror from Anthropologie which they then shipped to me.. for 1700!!! The shipping was double the price of the mirror! I realize it’s my fault for not asking Anthro what the packaged weight of the mirror was, but I was still shocked that MyUS wouldn’t even think to contact me before charging such a huge amount for shipping.

How did you pay for your order at Ulta? It won’t accept my card

    • Lee says:

I know, it’s such a pain they won’t accept Canadian billing addresses for credit cards. I get around that by paying via PayPal! It’s an option on checkout where you can select payment method. Let me know if that works for you! 🙂
