We’re Changing Our Date … Sort of?

February 3, 2021

Here’s a Wedding Wednesday update I never thought I’d be sharing … we’ve made a tough decision to change our wedding plan.

I feel for all the couples right now trying to decide what to do with 2021 weddings, many of whom have already postponed once or even twice before. Most of us never thought we’d be where we are with Covid restrictions nearly a year into the pandemic, but here we are. Everyone is having to make choices about their 2021 weddings and make the decision that works best for them. So here’s ours:

We have decided to proceed as planned with getting married on July 10th. We’re going to have a ‘micro-wedding’ with our immediate family (& best man and matron of honor) on my parent’s property in Ontario.

Then, we will have our ‘big wedding’ on October 8th here in Vancouver (at the venue we had initially booked for July).

Obviously we have a lot of details still to work, not to manage the new-found stress of planning TWO WEDDINGS *stress giggles*, but I am really excited that we have finally found a plan that works for us and our friends and families.

In the next couple of week’s I’m going to do a “Wedding Q&A” post (for Wedding Wednesday of course) so if there’s anything you want to know about this newfound plan of ours, or anything questions in general about our wedding, definitely let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for reading and coming along on this journey with us. XO Lee & Alex

I can’t even imagine the stress of trying to plan a wedding during 2020-2021 with all of the changing restrictions! You have everything under control and both wedding celebrations will be beautiful and memorable! <3

I think that this is a wonderful idea! I’m sure having a more intimate wedding will be really special as well – and it’ll be like a dress rehearsal for the bigger day. Less nerves and more plain old fun to be had with the larger crowd! Wishing you all the best as you continue to plan!

One gotta live in the moment and make that special day count even while the pandemic is going on .. because life doesn’t stop. I am glad you have things in order. Excited for you!

  6. This pandemic definitely has thrown a curve ball at a lot of us. Just remember that each decision you make is tough but it is for you and you have to do what makes you happiest. Good luck with everything!

Thank you so much Angelica, that’s so kind! Things are definitely looking up. I’m finding silver linings where I can – one being that I get to celebrate being with the love of my life twice!

  8. I think you chose wisely. I do feel for all of you brides out there, this Covid just seems to keep going on and on. This way you don’t have to wait to actually get married and you can have a bigger celebration later!

Thank you! Thats exactly how we feel, we don’t wait COVID to dicate/control anymore of our lives than it has to so at least we’ll be married and then we’ll get to have the big party when this is all over. If things are still bad in October we’ll postpone the party into 2022 but at least we’ll be married (also im really hoping by October things will be better!)

I think that’s a good idea! And actually it gives you more time to plan the bigger wedding 😉

I like this idea! By October, hopefully things will be more back to normal and you can have a big celebration…not socially distanced. The intimate wedding sounds special and romantic. ❤️

My heart goes out to you during this crazy time! I’m glad you’re still able to have a small wedding, it’ll be perfect no matter what!

  12. I can only imagine the stress of the uncertainty of it all but hoping all goes smooth, no matter the final plans! xoxo, Sarah

this sounds like a good compromise! but two weddings also sounds like it could be stressful! I would love to hear more about your wedding theme / decor / aesthetic 🙂

    • Lee says:

Haha it is DEFINITELY stressful. I had a lot of family say: “wait… so planning a wedding in a pandemic was stressful, so your solution was to plan TWO!?” haha. It sounds crazy but it is less stressful doing it this way, because we’ve got a bit more flexibility and don’t have to focus on every pandemic regulation update at least until we get closer to October.

  14. I really love this idea Lee and am glad you’re having the opportunity to do both. Excited to see photos from each. Would love to see all the little details – those were my favorite!

I micro-wedding sounds like the best way to celebrate while still being safe and smart! Can’t wait to see the pictures.

This sounds like a great way to still celebrate your wedding. Love the idea of an intimate ceremony.

  17. We postponed ours too, and at this point I have no idea when we’re actually going to do it!

    • Lee says:

Ugh I’m sorry to hear you had to postpone yours as well. I hope you can move forward with it sooner rather than later. It’s such a difficult decision
