My Wedding Day Hairstyle

wedding day hairstyle loose braid legallee blonde

My wedding day hair is hands down my favorite hairstyle I’ve ever had! My best friend Maddie, owner of Salon Nine, is so talented and helped me come up with this beach-vibes-meets fairy-tale wedding day hairstyle. Sharing the details below!

I told Maddie that I wanted a hairstyle that felt fancy and formal enough to feel like wedding day hair, but that also matched the environment – the fact that we had to COVID change our plans to a mall outdoor wedding on my parent’s property.

Initially I thought I wanted an updo since, to me, weddings call for updo’s. Maddie however gave me the best ‘wedding day hairstyle’ advice that I 100% need to pass on to you; to wear your hair in an elevated version of however you normally wear your hair. In other words, if you normally wear your hair up, go for an updo, but if you normally wear your hair done your wedding day hair should still be a down hairstyle. You want to look and feel like you!

Since we realized I wanted to create a hairstyle that was at least partially down we started looking at different loosely pulled back braids. My dress was an open, low back (I promise I’ll share pictures of it soon!) and so I wanted my hair down but without covering that full open back.

Enter Maddie’s hairstyling genius lol. To fit the outdoor fairy tale vibes Maddie created this loose twisted braid. To create this look she added clip-in hair extensions for length. She pulled a few face framing pieces out at the front and then curled everything.

She teasted the crown a LOT. The key (apparently) with braids like this is to ensure you have enough volume at the top to balance out the drama of the braid. She then alternated between pinned twists and a french braid to create the whole look. She didn’t braid right to the end, she left about 3 inches out and teased and curled it. This was again to elevate it from a traditional braid and have the look blend right to the end rather than having that narrowing rat-tail look that can come with a braid.

She then added flower bobby pins throughout the braid. I can’t recommend these flower hair pins from Etsy enough! They took a long time to arrive (nearly a month after I placed the order) but they were worth the wait. The quality of faux flower is unparalleled and the pins are very secure, including both bobby pin and hair pin style pins.

Finally she finished off the look with a crystal flower vine. You can’t see it in the photos but I’m wearing it towards the front like a headband. I felt so beautiful in this hairstyle and can’t recommend it enough for a bride looking for something elegant but laid-back.

Thanks for reading this post! We got our first sneak peek photos back from our photographer this week and I have some video content I created while getting ready and I’m going to be sharing that on instagram later this week. Come check it out if you want to see more wedding content! <3

I wondered if this would be the look you’d go with. It’s absolutely BREATHTAKING on you!!! I love the advice she gave you about wearing your hair in an elevated version of what you normally do. I always wear my hair down so for my wedding, it was down and curled but with a double braided crown to elevate it. I never felt more lovely. I can’t wait to see more from your big day!

  3. This hair is next level. I love the flowers, and the beautiful braid. It’s a super classy look and keeps the hair out of your face but looks so incredibly gorgeous. Saving this for future inspo!
