Happy Halloween! I’m behind the ball on sharing Halloween content this year
(… so, ummm… at what point do I need to stop using wedding and honeymoon planning as an excuse? I’m really not ready to stop lol).
Anyway, I did want to share a couple last minute DIY Halloween costumes since I know I can’t be the only one behind on things lol. You can also check out all of my older Halloween costume ideas if you’re interested!
So WHERE are my fellow Swifties at!?!?! 🙋♀️
You probably already know this, but I’m a die hard Taylor Swift fan. I have vivid memories of driving down a dirt road in my hometown at 17 dealing with boy drama and blasting “Teardrops on my Guitar” lol. Flash forward to 2019 and let me tell you I have used solo dance parties to “The Man” more times than I count as my ‘therapy’ at the end of a frustrating work day.
Anyway, you don’t need to hear me go on about Taylor Swift, we all know she’s a damn queen… and her outfits are ICONIC. There are so many great Taylor Swift costume ideas for Halloween, and this year I wanted to share a DIY Taylor Swift ‘Red’ era costume because:
A) It’s so easy to recreate her Red album vibes, and;
B) Red is on every Swifties mind right now as we await the 10 min version of “All to Well”
Red era Taylor Swift made such a statement with a very specific style for her fashion and her makeup that she repeated consistently during this time, making this a perfect DIY Halloween costume! Here’s what you need to know to recreate her look:
Color Palette:
For a perfect DIY Taylor Swift Halloween costume from the Red era, stick with black and red as your color palette with pops of gold and silver.
Tops:
Taylor loved a good striped top during this time. Find any red and white or black and white striped top and you’re good to go. She also loved peter pan collar t-shirts and, for bold looks, halter bodysuits.
Bottoms:
This was the era of high-waisted shorts and circle skirts. Shorts or these mini skirts in black or red are perfect – go with black faux leather or red patent if you want a bold Red era costume.
Shoes:
Taylor rocked a lot of keds and a lot of oxfords during this time. If she wasn’t in red or white keds or black oxfords, she was in gold or silver boots (a nod to her earlier more country-inspired style)
Accessories:
Taylor’s iconic heart sunglasses are probably the most recognizable thing from the Red era fashion. Opt for these or a similar white heart sunnies. The other staple for Taylor Swift at this time was fedoras. She rocked a LOT of fedoras lol. Wear a red or a black one and you’re good to go!
Makeup & Hair:
Two things you need for a perfect Taylor Swift costume, makeup wise: Red lipstick and winged eyeliner! I recommend this liquid red lipstick because it is the perfect Taylor shade and actually lasts all day long. It’s SO good and it’s a drug store find! I also love this liquid eyeliner, especially if you’re not confident with eyeliner. The unique shape makes it so easy to use- make sure you get the style called “Super Edgy” – that’s the one with the unique shape!
Taylor had a long bob at this time, which she wore stick straight and with bangs (early on) or a dramatic side sweep (later on). I just side swept my long blonde hair since it was easiest, but if you want to go full out, this Amazon Taylor Swift wig is $15 and a great replica of her hairstyle.
Still need a little guidance or inspiration on how to pair all of these together to create a DIY Taylor Swift Halloween costume? I’ve got you covered! Check out the collages below for outfit ideas! I’ll also link all of these pieces in case you’re looking to shop them. Almost everything is from Walmart and Amazon so that they are affordable and can ship fast for Halloween. 🙂
HAPPY TAYLOR SWIFTING EVERYONE! 🙂
