I still can’t believe we’re in 2022, but I am oh-so-ready for the 2022 fashion trends. If, like me, you’ve lived in the land of sweatpants and lounge wear for the past two years of chaos you will love what 2022 fashion trends have in store for us.
People are so ready to celebrate again. To dress up. To have fun. Whenever we see cultural shifts like this we inevitably see fashion take note and 2022 is no exception. Below I’ll go through some of the key 2022 fashion trends to know about right now (as well as the ones that I hate but I guess I should tell you about).
In general though, 2022 is all about a resurgence of dramatic, fun fashion. Think throwbacks to Y2K fashion (bold colors, platforms, outfits that screamed I am ready to party like it’s 1999).
Check out these 2022 trends below and let me know what ones you’re excited about!
The SS22 runway shows saw so many designers featuring neon, bright looks. From dresses, to matching sets colors like bright orange, bright yellow and lime green were huge. We’re already seeing street style pick up on this trend with celebrities rocking these looks on their tropical New Year’s vacations. This is such a great trend to incorporate into your wardrobe since it doesn’t require you like a certain silhouette or a certain color. Stick with what you know you love (maxi dresses, blazers, whatever!) and add a few in highlighter colors to your closet.
I find it funny that this is a big trend in 2022 since it also took off this past year. (See my post on feathers as a spring fashion trend). For 2022 feathers are back on everything from footwear, to dresses, to purses. One thing I’ve found to be trendy throughout different 2022 styles is texture, so it makes sense that adding feathers to something is going to be trendy.
My favorite trend by far is power suits. Considering I have a literal rainbow of colored pant suits in my closet, this trend is one I can get behind. I love seeing more and more women embrace suits – be they pantsuits or just fun blazer and shorts sets. It’s a power move to take this traditionally masculine piece of clothing and make it fun and feminine.
Say goodbye to your pleated midi skirts, a new skirt boss is in town. This year we are seeing skirts that are short, short and shorter. While I may not be comfortable with the micro-mini look, a regular mini skirt is something we can all embrace (add tights if you’re feeling uncomfortable).
I couldn’t leave you without one accessories trend for 2022, and by far the most fun and easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe is bright handbags. Are you seeing the theme of COLOR for 2022 yet?! Handbags this year will come in all sizes (though smaller bags are still the most popular), with the key being to pack away your black and brown bags and look for pops of color.
There are two trends that are quite popular for 2022 that I personally can’t stand, but I will share them with you all and let you make your own decision on them.
Low Rise Pants & Skirts: Yes, you read that correctly. Along with the fun aspects of Y2K fashion, we’re seeing this 2000’s fashion trend that really should stay buried come back with a vengeance. I refuse to go back to low rise, not only does it not flatter most of us, it’s just plain uncomfortable. Hard, hard pass for me.
Extreme Cutouts: Maybe I’m just too old to see the beauty of this one, but we’re seeing extreme cutouts as a major trend for 2022. Designers like Christian Siriano and Alexander McQueen showcased spring/summer 2022 pieces that have so little fabric it’s wild. I am all for a little cut out here and there but the extreme cutouts just seem unwearable for regular life.
And there you have it! Your 2022 fashion trends recap. I’ll share more season by season trends, but this should help give you an overview of what to expect in fashion this year.
What are your thoughts on these trends?
I like the highlighter hues. But for me, I would probably try to use them only for accessorizing, not entire outfits. I like the colorful handbags, too. A pop of color can complement a neutral outfit.
That’s totally fair – a pop of highlighter in a show or handbag would be so good!
Nice article, thanks for sharing this!

Power suits in bright colors are soooo good this season! Your yellow suit is gorgeous. I am with you on not bringing back low rise jeans…I just cannot go back! 😛

Thank you so much, I am so in love with that yellow suit!
and haha exactly!!
I love your yellow suit! All the bold, bright colours get a big thumbs up from me but the low rise jeans are a no-no – been there, done that 20 years ago and it was really uncomfortable! I remember going out for a meal in very low rise Miss Sixty jeans and my backside was practically hanging out when I sat down – I had to carefully position my coat on the back of the chair! Crazy fashion trend!
