This post has been a long time coming, but at 36 weeks pregnant I figure I better share my pregnancy safe skincare routine before I’m no longer pregnant lol! In my first trimester I did a ton of research on pregnancy safe products and tried out a number of things before finding the holy grail skincare routine that is making my skin the softest and most glowing it’s ever been! If you want to see the products I mention below ‘in action’; I posted this instagram reel to showcase them!
Please remember that I am not a doctor and if you have any questions/concerns about pregnancy and skincare you should definitely talk to your doctor and get their okay on any products you plan to use.
1. Cleanser = Honest Brand Mama’s Gotta Glow
The first step in my skincare routine is a good face wash. It was hard to find a pregnancy safe cleanser that actually left my skin feeling clean. I found a lot of the products I tried early on felt like they were just sitting on the surface of my skin rather than foaming up and getting into my pores.
That is until I discovered the Honest brand’s “Mama’s Gotta Glow” face & body wash. I’d been buying some Honest products for Baby B at the recommendation of so many fellow mom’s when I discovered that they also make products for mom. This cleanser foams up really well and feels like it’s really getting any grime off your face, while being gentle on your skin. It’s key ingredients are Apple AHA’s and Amino Acids and it’s free from all the common ingredients you need to steer clear of in pregnancy (like retinols for example!) Shop this cleanser if you’re in the US – here or here. If you’re in Canada, shop it here.
2. Serum (Anti-Aging, Skin Pefecting) = Herbal Face Food The Serum I
Herbal Face Food is new on the market and you guys they are a skincare GAME CHANGER. Herbal Face Food is a completely plant based skincare line designed to have real results without scary chemicals and additives. The Serum I combines 25 of the world’s most powerful botanicals into one serum to give you a potent serum (you can feel it tingle when applied) that delivers results. The best results are perhaps on dealing with melasma, but it also works great on reducing fine lines and wrinkles. This is huge when it comes to pregnancy safe skincare so almost every other anti-aging product uses things like retinols that are not deemed pregnancy safe. I love, love, love what this product has done for my skin and I love knowing that I’m applying something so natural. Be warned though the serum is bright orange (I don’t know why but this majorly shocked me at first lol) and there is a powerful plant based smell. To me it smells a bit like oregano and cinnamon.
One of the craziest things about The Serum is how fast it starts working – I saw a real difference in my skin in just one week!
I reached out to Herbal Face Food about getting a discount code to share with my blog readers / followers and they were kind enough to offer you all 20% off with code Lee20. Shop here! 🙂
3. Serum (Spot Treatment) = Herbal Face Food The Cure
This is another product by Herbal Face Food that I’ve become obsessed with. The Cure is basically a more potent version of The Serum and so I use it as a spot treatment for any particularly difficult skin areas – for me this has been some pregnancy melasma on my left cheek and fine lines around my eyes. Because this one is so powerful you can really feel it working so they recommend starting by using this only once or twice a week and working your way up. I now use it every day in small spots.
4. Moisturizer = Biossance Squalene & Omega Repair Cream
This is a very thick moisturizing cream that works great as a night cream but is still light enough (not greasy) to use in the morning if your skin is extra dry. I love this one because it delivers intense hydration without clogging pores and again is free from ingredients you need to avoid during pregnancy; it’s plant based!
And there you have it! These 4 products have become my holy grail pregnancy skincare routine. Finding a pregnancy safe skincare routine that worked wasn’t easy but this combo has really done wonders for my skin. If you try out these products I hope you love them as much as I do! I’ll definitely be sticking with all of these post-pregnancy, and just adding in a few items I’ve been missing (like my vitamin A cream and my retinol ceramide capsules!)
