For this week’s edition of ‘Wedding Wednesday’ I’m excited to be sharing with you how I asked my bridesmaids / maid of honor to be a part of our wedding. Bridesmaid proposal ideas are everywhere and (while I’m biased 😛) my bridesmaid proposal gifts were great!
Before getting to how I proposed (which all you fellow brides to be need to see / bookmark for later – I think you’ll LOVE the gift set) I wanted to share details of my bridal party. π
I asked my best friend Maddie (my instagram followers may know her as the oh-so-talented owner of @salon.nine) to be my Maid of Honor. Maddie (pictured above with her daughter Presley) has been my best friend since the eighth grade and I can’t imagine walking down the aisle without her there.
My friends Britta and Natalia (pictured below) are going to be my bridesmaids! Britta and Nat are two of my close friends here in Vancouver and I am so excited to share this with them.
How I asked my Bridesmaids / Maid of Honor – My Bridesmaid Proposal Gifts
Let me start off by saying I had no idea a bridesmaids proposal was even a thing prior to getting engaged and holy moly did I go down an internet / google rabbit hole when I heard about them! It can honestly be a bit overwhelming when you realize you’re supposed to find some big way to ask them! I realized that what I wanted was to give each of my bridesmaids a gift that they would actually like / use and find a way to ask them that was a bit creative. I wanted to make them feel special!
After much searching I decided to get these personalized bridesmaid proposal cards. Since I was giving them the cards around Christmas I knew it would be easy to surprise them / not have them know what the card was, so I specifically searched for cards that didn’t just say ‘will you be bridesmaid’ on the outside of the card. These personalized cards are scratch-off so I gave them the cards with a quarter taped to each envelope. They had to scratch the heart to reveal the message which, of course, said ‘Will you be my bridesmaid?’
I love theΒ scratch off card concept so much and recommend these ones to anyone wanting to ‘pop a question’. You can personalize the message under the heart to read will you be my … (fill in whatever you want!) There are also a few different colors and styles of the watercolor flowers painted around the heart.
In addition to the card asking each woman to be my bridesmaid / maid of Honor, I wanted to give each woman a gift. I found these personalized bridesmaid proposal gift boxes on Etsy and, as with the cards, I was immediately sold on them! I loved that with these ones (unlike many ‘bridesmaid proposal boxes’) the box itself is a part of the gift. The boxes are high quality and personalized with gold foil printing so they make a great keepsake to have at home to store whatever in!
Inside the boxes were three items; once again personalized to each bridesmaid. The items were:
– a pink coffee mug
– a ring dish
– a candle
These three things can be personalized to your hearts content! You can put their name, the word ‘bridesmaid’, their initials etc. I chose to put each person’s name on the mug with a little heart – since I figured that is something they can use over and over again. On the ring dish I went with each person’s initial and then on the candle I went with bridesmaid / matron of honor.
I saw a lot of bridesmaid proposal gifts with tons of merch labelled “bridesmaid” and honestly? I just think that’s weird. No one wants to be carrying around or using something that says bridesmaid other than maybe on the day they’re actually being a bridesmaid. By personalizing the mug and ring dish with their names I felt like I was giving them something they’ll actually use beyond just my wedding day.
In terms of actually giving my bridal party these bridesmaids proposals, I was lucky to have been able to give them right before we tightened up COVID rules again making it so that we can’t see people outside of our household. When I gave Britta and Nat their bridesmaid proposal gifts we did the have the rule that you could only see people outside – hence why we’re all standing bundled up in the rain lol. We met up for coffee and a walk on the sea wall and I surprised them with the gift boxes. Certainly not an ideal scenario but planning a wedding during a global pandemic calls for a lot of adaptability!
Other Wedding Planning Updates:
We’ve now got a wedding venue & wedding party. I asked the tiny humans in my life by way of a flower girl proposal as well 🙊. Can’t wait to share the details of that next week! 😍 Next up: I NEED A WEDDING DRESS! EEP! It’s officially less than 6 months until the wedding so I am *mildly* stressing about finding a dress. (and by mildly, I mean full on freaking out lol).
I’ve tried on probably 50 wedding dresses at this point and just can’t seem to find the one. Some of the dresses have been stunning and I have loved them so much … but they didn’t feel bridal. Ya know? I have another two wedding dress boutiques to go to next week, so please cross your fingers for me that my indecisive self can decide on the one!
These are so cute! I think the only regret I have about marrying so young is that there was no pinterest and all of these fun ideas to use! Haha!
Haha awww!! Do a vow renewal or something like that for your 20th anniversary! π
These are such cute gift boxes, filled with items they will actually use! I love it!

These are so cute!! I did the same thing once I got engaged, I fell down a rabbit hole too and ended up going with personalized gift baskets, a lot like what you did! Congratulations on your engagement, I can’t wait to follow along and see how beautiful your wedding will be!
Aw that’s awesome! and haha it’s crazy how once you start looking man oh man does it go down a rabbit hole. And thank you Annie! It’s been a struggle planning during the pandemic, but hopefully it will all work out!

Thank you!!
These are such thoughtful bridesmaid proposals! I love the ring dish – what a clever idea. I just gave my bridesmaids earrings. Ah – I say “just” but they were special. They were from a small business, handmade, and each earring backing had their name on it. These were also the earrings they wore on my wedding day. I still have the ones I got for myself! I’m sure your bridesmaids will treasure their gifts for years to come.
Oh wow that’s so beautiful! How cool that the backings had their name and I love that you wore yours for the wedding!
This is just beyond adorable! I was married 12 years ago (this October) and there weren’t so many awesome ideas for gifts to ask people to be in your wedding back then! I think I just made my bridesmaids cards? I can’t even remember!
Thanks Caitlin! and wow, congrats on 12 years of marriage!!
These are so cute!!

Awww Congratulations! Asking my bridesmaids to stand by my side was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. Nothing like loving on your best gals! xo
Thank you! It was a ton of fun. Honestly, planning a wedding during a pandemic has been rough (at the best of times) so I’m really holding on to the little moments of joy and normalcy in the whole thing.
Congrats! These are such cute ideas!
Thank you Em!
