Fall is in full swing here in Vancouver, and now that we’re back from our honeymoon and the wedding (well, weddingS lol) are over I am so ready for all things fall fashion. Like everyone I love that fall fashion brings with it layering, cozy pieces, and warm fall colors. What I also love – that I think is often underappreciated – is the evergreen nature of fall fashion. Some things never change and it’s actually really easy to be on trend during the fall with only adding a few pieces to your closet. Fall fashion allows you to be trendy while still going easy on your bank account.
To that end, I wanted to talk fall fashion trends today and share with you the top 5 items to add to your closet this fall. Again, so many older fall pieces in your closet can still look on trend this fall with a few minor tweaks and additions.
1. A Shacket
If you don’t have a shacket yet, this is the #1 thing to add to your closet this fall! They make the perfect outfit topper and the oversized fit helps keep your outfit on trend, with whatever you choose to wear with it. I personally recommend having a few different shackets. Long length ones are a newer trend to be hitting the streets, and a classic shorter version will always serve you well. Opt for classic fall colors and patterns, like camels and plaids or go for a trendy 2021 color like pastel blue or pink. The pastel blue shacket I’m wearing here is from H&M but unfortunately it’s already sold out! I did find this nearly identical light blue shacket though, and it’s under $30! Below are my other top picks for shackets for fall:
2. Split Hem Jeans or Leggings
This is the fashion trend I did not see coming! A big trend for fall winter is jeans or leggings with a split hem. This is such an easy way to update your wardrobe. Leggings with long sweaters feel outdated, but if you love leggings (I certainly do) add a split hem pair to your wardrobe and style them with your existing fall items for a more on trend fall look! Similar with the jeans! Despite what gen-Z may say, skinny jeans are not dead my friend lol. They are still stylish for fall, especially paired with boots and on-trend other items (like shackets!) but if you want to add a new jean silhouette to your wardrobe the one to go with is a split hem jean. Here are some of my favorite picks for split hem jeans and split hem leggings:
3. A Sweater Vest
Looking like a British professor from the 80’s is what this fall is all about lol. So many fall looks are ‘academic inspired’ – from blazers with long pleated midi skirts, to turtlenecks to, yes, sweater vests. They are back in trend baby and you should definitely add one to your closet! What I like about this trend is that you can pick a style that works for you and your tastes – go for a long vest you can wear with leggings, a cropped sweater vest over a blouse or a regular length sweater vest over a turtleneck. So many options! My favorite sweater vests for fall are:
4. Vegan Leather Bottoms
From leggings, to pants, to skirts, vegan leather is everywhere this fall as one of the biggest fall fashion trends. Pick something your style and add it to you closet asap. Sidenote: the spanx faux leather leggings are LIFE. I’ve got a whole post on ways to style spanx faux leather leggings if you’re interested. This season also consider adding vegan leather pants, not just leggings, especially in fall colors like brown, rust and camel. Check out my favorites below.
5. Comfortable Sneakers
The final thing you need to add to your closet this fall is a pair (or two) of comfortable sneakers! Don’t get me wrong, high heels are back in a big way as trend (yay for the world reopening again and people being able to go places lol) but especially after a year and a half in sweatpants and slippers we all need to add comfortable sneakers to our closets to go with our trendy new outfits. The Amazon brand AKK reached out to me about sharing some of their sneakers with me and they are so freaking comfortable. I’m wearing the white comfort lightweight tennis shoes in this outfit and they are a staple for me for fall. AKK makes a few different styles of sneakers /running shoes and they have so many color options. As you can see in the pictures below, I have the black memory foam sport sneaker and the wine colored walking sneakers (love the color for fall!) If you’re looking for comfortable sneakers that are affordable (all under $40) I definitely recommend these. I will say they run a bit big in my opinion, so I would size down a half size from your usual.
Hope you enjoyed this fall fashion trends post! Like I said, you can be on trend for fall with very minimal changes to your existing wardrobe. Adding these 5 fall items to your closet is an easy way to be on trend this fall!
